HOW TO: DETOX

Have you ever looked into the mirror one morning and realized just how out of hand things are getting? Your eyes are red and puffy underneath from exhaustion, your body literally feels heavy and you feel sick, but not quite I need to visit my local GP sick? This is often the case whenever I decide it’s time to detox.

Although my current conviction is aimed towards more long term progress and maintenance, I would regularly take two weeks out every now and then just to cleanse my body and feel refreshed again. After an online interaction and a few direct messages later, I thought I’d share my two go-to methods given I am currently in detox season.

“Detoxification is the procedure through which one will cleanse the various body systems. This process will involve ingesting substances that will flush the toxins out. If not, those troublesome toxins in us will make us feel sub-par all day”

Green Tea Detox

What I Drink:

Lipton Pure Green Tea or Moringa Green Tea (you can purchase either of these at your local supermarket)

I have 2 cups of plain green tea a day. Yes, plain (no sugar and no honey aka no cheating). I’ll have one in the morning and one in the evening when I return from work. It’s important to note that you shouldn’t be exceeding 2 cups a day especially if you are a regular green tea drinker because this could have harmful long term effects on your digestive system.

Benefits:

Green tea contains antioxidants that help cleanse the body whilst also increasing your metabolism. I know this is a thing because by day 3 I usually struggle to stomach the portions I could before I started detox. This coupled with drinking water throughout the day will help flush out the toxins from your body and also have you feeling rejuvenated. Not for nothing but I do sincerely wake up feeling fresher during these days.

Apple Cider Vinegar Cleanse

This is a cleanse I found about a year ago which contains a mixture of apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, honey, cayenne pepper and warm water.

While it’s certainly not the best tasting beverage in the land, a cup of this in the morning for 5-6 days will have you feeling less bloated if at all. I usually opt for this as a pre-detox detox when i’m being extreme otherwise it is quite helpful on its own too.

Happy detoxing and have a pleasant week ahead.
